Free COVID-19 testing and groceries will be available Saturday at Roeding Park.
Sponsored by Fresno councilman Miguel Arias, the event runs from 8 a.m. to noon. The event will take place next to the Chaffee Zoo. Parking is free.
[rlic_related_post_one]Facemasks will also be available for the event billed as both walk-up and drive-up.
While appointments are not required, they can still be made at this link. Arias anticipates the event will help 500 families.
“The past months have been difficult for everyone in the City of Fresno,” Arias said in a news release. “I want to thank you for continuing to practice physical distancing, wearing a mask, washing your hands frequently, and continuing to avoid social gatherings. We are in this together. Our actions can help save lives.”
The Roeding Park testing event is one of several that city councilmembers have held in their respective districts. They are funded by the $92 million the city received in CARES Act federal stimulus spending.
Other sponsors of the event include the office of Assemblyman Joaquin Arambula, United Health Centers, the city of Fresno, Every Neighborhood Partnership, Black Women Organized for Political Action, and the zoo.
Councilwoman Esmeralda Soria is also sponsoring a drive-thru food distribution on Saturday, from 9 a.m. to noon. It takes place at the First Congregational Church of Fresno — also known as The Big Red Church — at 2131 N. Van Ness Boulevard.
Food will be distributed in boxes on a first come, first serve basis while supplies last.
The Central California Food Bank and Arambula are co-sponsoring the event.
